Current Film Magazines Research
The purpose of my research is simply to learn about film magazines, know what is about and its contents to give me the information to be able to generate new ideas for a new film magazine.
The Hollywood Reporter (THR)
Hollywood reporter is an American multi-platform digital and print magazine.
Contents
The content of the magazine is focused on the Hollywood film industry but it also has contents that are linked or on the same platform as the film industry like television, fashion, lifestyle and the entertainment industry as a whole.
The magazine covers stories on the Film industry as a whole. They cover stories on Movies, review on movies and stories around movies. Thy also cover stories about celebrities in the film industries, their movies, performance and any news about them relating to their movies. They also cover stories about TV, this includes Tv shows/series and also Tv personalities and Talk show hosts.
Hollywood reporter also have contents about Celebrity fashion, this includes Red carpet fashion, runway modelling fashion and general fashion trends on clothing and decorations.
They also have Latest culture news, This is about the Lifestyle of the film stars, they cover stories on the charities they go to, rumours and news about production, filming and behind the scenes activities of the Film industry celebrities. It also has additional content like politics, business style and Tech.

The cover of The Hollywood Reporter August 8, 2018 - Issue 26.
This cover just like other Hollywood reporter covers has the the Hollywood reporter written in bold on the background. The main topic or theme of the magazine is "YOUNG HOLLYWOOD" and this is placed write in the middle of the magazine, making it very easy to see and under it is the name of the celebrity on the over, now the theme and topic of the magazine relates or is tied to the celebrity on the cover, as she is a young celebrity in Hollywood and the words under YOUNG HOLLYWOOD tells the audience that there are 30 the rising stars under 18 all featured in the magazine and also tells the audience something about the person on the cover, which immediately give the audience an idea of who the celebrity on the cover is.
The questions on the top left of the magazine "What Kids are Really Into" and "Can CBS Investigate Les" immediately Strats a conversation, s the audience starts to answer the question and is engaged, which again also goes back to the theme or topic of the magazine Young Hollywood.
This magazine cover is simple ,straight to the point and engaging at the same time, at a first glance an audience sees what the magazine is about or theme which helps them decide if they are interested or not. the celebrity on the cover makes it attractive and draws in an audience as they read the theme and the little information about the celebrity, and starts to be curious and interested in the celebrity and the contents in the magazine.

Even though The Hollywood Reporter (THR) is a film magazine and audience expect news and stories about ilm un the magazine, it also add different features like Roundtables where the magazine sits with the stars of a specific movie genre and have them discuss both personal and movie related topics. Other features includes style, politics, tech and business. Interviews
The Hollywood reporter interviews Celebrities or Stars of ,movies and TV where they get them to talk about the art they created, Go into details about the film, being the scenes, what their movie is about and general question that audience would like to know about the movie or the celebrity. THR main way of interviewing customers is "Actors Roundtable" where they gather the stars or actors of one film genre and have the sit around a round table and talk about their movie, experiences and others, the full interviews are on their website and youtube, and in the traditional magazine there are parts of the interviews in there.
Reviews
THR covers the reviews of Tv and film, where they have the Box office reviews on opening weekends and the amount a movie made worldwide and domestically. THR also has reviews on upcoming or newly released film where they get into details about the story ratings and if its worth seeing.
EMPIREE FILM MAGAZINE
Empire is a British film magazine that is published monthly. Its the highest selling film magazine in the UK.

Empires content is mainstream film and art films. Its content includes stories on movies. Tv series. where there cover new, old and upcoming film and tv shows. It also has stories on gaming where they review games on different platforms, they give details on price, what the games are about and gameplays. Its contents also include award shows where they cover award show, the winners , what happened and what its all about.

This cover of Empire film magazine has Empire largely written on the background, and the magazine is very bright and colourful, and colourful equals attraction which draws attention of the audience.
Right at the to of the magazine is " Ultimate Autumn Preview" This suggest to the audience what the theme or topic of the magazine is therefore they have an idea of what the magazine is about. Under the theme is a proposal or suggestion to the audience on what movies to see , this attracts the attention of the audience, making them interested and curious in what information the magazine contains. The cover photo of the magazine is a movie poster with the stars of the movie on it, and under the picture is the title of the movie which relates to the cover giving the reader information about the cover.
Under the title of the movie are names of other featured movies in the magazine and also a bonus story on the the director of "Die hard" sharing the real story of die hard.
This magazine cover is simple and colourful. The magazine immediately gets the attention of an audience with how colourful it is, and with the theme or topic of what the magazine is about at the very top of the magazine audience easily sees it and decides if their interested in the magazine or not. In addition with other movies featured in the magazine on the cover, a reader gets more interested and curious as to what else is in the magazine.

The features of empire includes The regular top 10 list, with this feature Empire gives the audience the ten of something movie related, they have the top 10 Netflix movies/show, top 10 movies of the week or a particular year etc.
They have other features where they give celebrities questions or ask for their opinion on films rosily and personal questions and the features are titled, How much is a print of milk and My movie mastermind. Additionally it has another feature called Spine Quote, where a film quote is printed on the spine of the magazine and readers try to identify the particular film and get a chance to wi a puzzle
Interviews
Empire interview the stars of film who have upcoming movies or newly released movies. Their main interview source is Empire Podcast where they can have all the stars of a film including its directors and interview them about their film and other related or personal topics.

COMPARISON OF THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER AND EMPIRE MAGAZINE
Both Empire and The Hollywood Reporter have many similarities, this includes: Both magazines have similar if not the same contents, they both have contents on the film industry, they both have contents on Film and TV, they both give box office and overall reviews on new and upcoming films, they also cover award shows including the celebrity fashion style and red carpet appearance, fashion trends and what celerities weaR. They both also interview celebrities and stars of movies but in different ways, Empire interview stars on the Empire podcast where as The Hollywood Reporter has interviews celebrities on Actors Roundtables.
On the other hand both magazine have different features and contents such as: The Hollywood Reporter don't just focus on the Film industry they include contents and stories from h business, Style, Politics, Tech and culture and provide news and stories on what is happening in the world of those topics, But Empire does otherwise, they actually focus on the Film industry and contents that influence the film industry like gaming which influences the film industry, for example Spiderman film series and game, the avengers film franchise and the avengers game. Empire also have features like "The top 10" where they give audience the top ten movies, Netflix shows, comedy and others which is like a simple way for customers to know the best film yo watch or worth looking at, they also have games and riddles on film in their magazines for audience to solve and winners get prizes.
